Depending on the season, one can meet quite a few people up at these lakes – from hikers who carry up their tent and food for a multiple-day stay, to locals taking a “little run” up to the top and then back down again (some of these little runs are 6-9 miles up, and then back down).

Even with people about, the trails and lakes of the Wallowa Mountain region are places of peace, tranquility, and quiet. The water is still and clear, reflecting the sky above, and the air is crisp in the morning, warming up during the autumn afternoon before cooling down again for the night.
